Moves are being made downtown.

Both Salt Lake County and the Smith Entertainment Group announced some of their development partners as part of the Salt Palace Convention Center renovation and the adjacent outdoor entertainment district near the Delta Center.

Salt Lake County announced Friday in a news release it had picked Construction Control Corporation (CCC) and RLB to oversee the convention center’s “construction and cost management,” while the two companies would also respectively act as local and global representatives. The county also picked MHTN and Populous as their local and global architecture design partners, respectively.

Also on Friday, SEG announced it had selected HKS as the architectural firm to design the master plan for their Sports, Entertainment, Culture and Convention district (SECC) that would bridge the Salt Palace with the Delta Center.

HKS has designed a number of new sports stadiums in recent years, including SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and the Victory Plaza outside of the American Airlines Arena in Dallas to name a few, according to a news release from SEG.

More locally, HKS was also the architecture firm behind the Astra Tower, the newly-opened residential tower Downtown that is now the tallest building in Utah.

Salt Lake County said the firms it selected submitted their bids as duos, as local companies CCC and MHTN opted to partner up with larger, global companies RLB and Populous. The county said in the news release that these partnerships demonstrate, “the value of collaborative expertise on this highly anticipated project.”

“These selections represent some of the best talent in the industry, with a unique and necessary blending of local and national expertise,” Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson said in the news release. “As excited as I am to see the new district develop and our visitor economy grow, I’m most excited about enhancing community opportunities through intentional placemaking. Through this collaborative effort, beloved venues and spaces will be improved and there will be better walkability and connectivity downtown.”

In addition to naming the construction management and architecture companies, the county also announced it had renewed its property management contract with Legends Global, formerly known as ASM Global. Salt Lake County says its RFP for a construction company is still ongoing.
