Salt Lake City’s newest state liquor store along Foothill Drive sets opening day

by | Mar 25, 2025

Salt Lake City’s new two-story, Downtown liquor store isn’t the only new location that the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services has been working on in recent years.

The Utah DABS will open its new location at 1615 Foothill Drive next Monday on March 31, according to Michelle Schmitt, director of communications for the DABS. The new location will replace the old liquor store along Foothill Drive that was torn down.

DABS provided Building Salt Lake with a list of stores that will be newly built or relocated, which revealed another change on the horizon for Salt Lake City’s liquor stores.

Aside from the new Foothill Drive location, the DABS is also looking to relocate the state liquor store in Sugar House, though a location for the new store has not yet been determined, Schmitt said in an email. The current Sugar House liquor store is located at 1154 E. Ashton Ave. In 2021, developers pitched a new liquor store in a Sugar House apartment building.

That building has long been stalled, however, and the development team hasn’t provided any updates about if or when it might pick back up.

As for Salt Lake City’s old liquor store along 400 South, an online listing from Mountain West Commercial Real Estate shows part of the site is likely to become a 7-Eleven convenience store. The south end of the building is available for lease, and it consists of roughly 5,100 square feet of retail space. That plot of land is currently zoned as D-2 – Downtown Support District.

Other DABS developments

To the north, Weber County will soon have its fifth liquor store open later this year. Construction started late last year on a new liquor store at 1115 W. 12th St. in Marriott-Slaterville — just outside Ogden’s city limits. The store is slated to open this fall.

The DABS is also rebuilding its liquor store in Roy, which is currently located at 5948 S. 1900 West. Schmitt said the store, which will be located at 3656 W. 5600 South, is expected to open this fall.

To the east, Park City will have yet another liquor store in the near future. Schmitt said a new location in Summit County will open sometime in the next two years. The location would be the fourth regular liquor store in the Park City area, which also has a liquor warehouse in the town for clubs and restaurants.

According to KPCW, the DABS will build the new location on land owned by the Utah Department of Transportation just to the east of Quinn’s Junction where Route 248 and U.S. Highway 40 meet.

Elsewhere in the state, the DABS plans on relocating the state liquor store in Moab to a new location at 963 S. Main St., and that location is expected to open in the spring of 2026. The St. George area will also get a new store in the coming years, as Schmitt said Washington will get a brand new store sometime in the next two years.
