New construction in one of Salt Lake City’s mixed-use historic districts is about to get under way on a for-sale, four-unit project at 153 S 1300 E.
Cole West (formerly CW Urban), a BSL advertiser, has secured permits and is beginning construction on TheROW, to be located on the surface parking lot of the former LDS University Ward.
Cole West obtained the lot in September 2024 from a LLC affiliated with JAB Real Estate, based in Chicago, which redeveloped the University Ward building into apartments, a story we previously covered.

For years the lot has appeared overgrown and vacant from the street perspective.
The face of the development will look downslope to 1300 E. The designs were approved by Planning staff and the Historic Landmarks Commission in October.
TheROW’s four 4-BR 4.5-BA units, each just over 3000 SF, will be “meticulously crafted…embodying a blend of contemporary comfort and architectural style paying homage to the area’s rich heritage,” in the words of Cole West’s application for new construction in a Local Historic District.
The units will share a common space outdoors at ground level on the 1300 E side, and also enjoy their own 2-car garages and private 3rd-floor patios.
Project Manager for TheROW, Levi Harper, told us that he expects the units to be completed by the end of the year.
